Book review: T4T A Discipleship ReRevolution

If you are about discipleship, church planting and the great commission then here is a must read for you.

T4T A Discipleship ReRevolution

This book is going to help you understand and sharpen your focus on the 5 parts of a CPM. Church Planting Movements

Entry: Your church planters are working in districts where there are dozens or hundreds of villages with no Christian presence. How do you establish work where no believers or churches presently exist?

Evangelism: How to you transform your ministry so that instead of a few pastors and evangelists sharing the gospel every believer is sharing the gospel?

Follow up & Discipleship: How do you equip new believers to follow-up and disciple those they are leading to Christ themselves?

Church Formation: How do you organize the new believers into new churches instead of inviting them to existing churches?

Leadership Multiplication: How will hundreds and thousands of new leaders be raised up that will shepherd a church planting movement?

There is a helpful site to go along with the book. http://t4tonline.org/   You can order the book on this site and download a rich source of free supplemental information here.

You will be amazed how you will read Acts chapters 9-20 differently after you read this book. You will be asking yourself, Why did I not see that before.  Yes that is how the early disciples turned their world upside down, the revolution.

If you are still not sure about buying this book then start by reading these two chapters online.

Jesus the Mission Strategist

Jesus has chosen his disciples and spent time with them, taught them. They have observed his ministry witnessed Jesus Spiritual authority over demos, sickness, death, nature and sin.
And now Jesus is giving authority to his disciples. He is sending them out two by two, to do personal evangelism, preach repentance from town to town. Jesus is the expert mission strategist.

Mark 6:7-13
7Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two and gave them authority over evil spirits.
8These were his instructions: “Take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. 9Wear sandals but not an extra tunic. 10Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. 11And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave, as a testimony against them.”

God’s works through Jesus, redemption of man was destined to spread. Jesus chose disciples trained them sent them, work carried on after Jesus left, when the Holy Spirit came.

Jesus still uses human agents, imperfect people. The Gospel is working its way through 6 billion people like yeast worked through dough. To spread and saturate the world with the Gospel.

Jesus calls his disciple together and sends them out. They have learned from Jesus, gotten to know him. He is ready to send them out on their mission.

Those who go must first be with Christ. If you are going to lead other people to Christ you must be very sure you know Him yourself. There must be daily renewal. Without that renewal your witness will have a hollow emptiness to it without power. D. L. Moody said, I am a leaky vessel. I must stay under the tap.

Take no unnecessary baggage. Trust and depend on God. Vs 12 They went out and preached that people should repent.

Man utterly hopeless, destined to hell without Christ. Man’s problem is a spiritual disease called sin. Notice the message was not simply Jesus dwells in each of you simply wake up to that. Rather, repent, mans condition is hopeless without Christ. A man is lost away from God until he accepts Christ.

Billy Graham said, “Some would say to the prodigal son, you don’t need to return to the father, we can help you clean up this pigsty and make it a pleasant home for you.”

The apostles confronted men and women with their son and called them to repentance. If you lose your evangelistic zeal it means a try dynamic faith has faded. We lose our evangelistic zeal when we lose sight of Holy God and fear of God.

2 Corinthians 5:11 Since then we know what it is to fear the Lord we persuade men. There is the urgency in the New Testament evangelism. We cannot help but speak the things we have seen and heard” Peter.

“We have found the Messiah” Nathaniel

“Come and see a man who told me al the things I ever did” Woman of Samaria

Jesus taught his disciples to take the gospel to the people. Go to the highways and byways and compel them to come in!

Not everyone would accept this message of repentance. Jesus himself met rejection in Nazareth. Some would reject the disciples sent out by him.

In India there are six out of ten Hindus who want a Christian to tell them more about Jesus Christ. This survey came as a result of a massive TV and video evangelistic emphasis. Can you imagine that when you pass one thousand people on the side walk in India there are six hundred that would like you to tell them more about Jesus Christ, disappointed if you don’t. But four out of ten don’t want you to tell them. And a very small percent get downright angry if you try to tell them. Don’t let the minority deter you and spoil it for all those who want you to tell them of Christ and how he can give them eternal and abundant life.

When those are against you then shake the dust off your sandals. In Acts 13:51 Paul and Barnabas shook the dust off their feet in protest against those who rejected the Gospel.

Keep working, spread the gospel and expect some rejection. In one case an evangelist was having a lot of trouble in one village. Finally a Christian leader went with him to discuss the situation in the village. One man out of the village was very adamant they did not want this evangelist spreading the Gospel in their village. After discussion the Christian leader said fine. If you do not want the gospel here the evangelist will not come. The Bible tells us to shake the dust from our feet and go. He said he will leave. Suddenly the others became more vocal. I don’t want you to do that in our village. Another said my sister has become a Christian and the evangelist helps her. The voices for the evangelist to continue work in the village prevailed.

The gospel continues on like yeast through dough. Be encouraged, the gospel is saturating this planet steadily and surely as God said it would. In some areas churches are popping up like ant homes after the rain. God’s work moves ahead around the world.

Jesus taught his disciples to take the gospel to the people. What are your priorities?

Great Commission Quotes

I am starting a list of Mission Quotes here.

I am not sure where I read the Ralph Winter quote, if it was on a perspectives flyer, touch ten campaign. If anyone knows the exact location and exact wording of that quote please let me know.

“Rather than give me one thousand who have gained a vision for the world, give me one who will keep that vision.” Ralph Winter

“Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission in this generation.”    Bill Bright

“Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God.”      William Carey  in his so-called Deathless Sermon, Isaiah 54:2-3

“Bol, Visu Masih, Ki Jah” – Shout the victory of Jesus Christ!”  John Hyde “Praying Hyde” – Missionary to India – while he lay dying.

No Reserves. No Retreats. No Regrets.   William Borden

I was at Penn State and I saw this big chart and here were generation after generation after generation, up to ten generations. This person led this person to Christ, who lead another and discipled that person, who lead and discipled, and led and discipled, and that’s very rare in America. Overseas where people are not as rushed and have more time to memorize scripture and to be involved in fellowship and discipleship, the generations are dramatically increased.

Wherever I go I meet people who say that I’m their spiritual father or grandfather, or great grandfather, or great, great, great, great grandfather because of the discipleship emphasis. I was speaking at a breakfast in the Philippines and there was this medical student, Dr. Chen, who had led and discipled another medical student to Christ, and he had discipled another, and another, and another. So, here were all ten of these medical doctors and students standing before this large gathering of hundreds of Christians talking about spiritual multiplication. That’s what Christianity is all about. As a matter of fact, I’ve often reasoned if I led a thousand people to Christ a day for 365 days a year for 50 years that’d be around 18 million people. That’s a lot of people, but through spiritual multiplication and to all glory and praise go to God, not Bill Bright, there are hundreds of millions who have received Christ through people who have been won and discipled, and won and discipled, and won and discipled and that goes on all over the world.  Bill Bright

In spite of sorrow, loss, and pain, Our course be onward still; We sow on Burmah’s barren plain, We reap on Zion’s hill. Adoniram Judson

Reaching the world in the USA

I remember a mission discussion in India where someone challenged to “go” for the great commission asked a great strategic question, “How to go when you are already there”?

It was a great question and the answer is that going is not always moving or going to a foreign country. If India has almost half the worlds Unreached People Groups why do India Christians need to travel to another country? Going might mean finding an unreached people group right around them.

But in America?

At practically every exit on every interstate in America is a hotel owned by one of the world’s most unreached peoples of Gujarati Hindus. Churches and associations should start an adopt a highway campaign and reach all the unreached peoples on the interstate exits and campuses.

In the past the international students coming to the USA were coming from Asia; India and China. Now they are coming from the oil money families of the Middle East. There is no longer a divide between the USA and the other nations.
